Stray Animals

In the event that you have a stray animal in your possession, the first place to call is your local council. They provide services for collection of stray animals both during normal business hours and also after hours, every day of the year, so they should ALWAYS be able to help.
However, in the event that your local council are unable to provide assistance, Bundoora Veterinary Clinic will always accept the animal into our facility.
It is important to note, that any healthy stray animal that is handed into us will ALWAYS BE SENT TO THE LOCAL COUNCIL. This is according to Victorian Law. Since 2013, it is now deemed illegal for a vet clinic to scan any stray animal in an attempt to reunite it with its owner, and if we choose to break this law we face a penalty of $700.
However, if a stray animal is injured or unwell we will always attempt to contact the owners of the animal immediately and instigate treatment as required.
We understand that this policy is different to years gone by where vets were allowed to rehome stray animals, however this is now the law, and we are forced to abide by it.
But please feel reassured that by sending animals to the council they then have the best chance of being reunited with their correct owners in the shortest period of time.
